Nearby towns and villages

The nearest larger town is Bridport which offers markets, food shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. It gives you more choice than Chideock itself, especially for longer stays or wet-weather days. West Bay is just beyond Bridport and adds a harbour, beaches and the well-known cliffs along this part of the Jurassic Coast.

Lyme Regis is also within easy reach, with a harbour, seafront, fossil beaches and more visitor facilities. Seatown is the closest coastal spot to Chideock, while Eype, Charmouth and Burton Bradstock give you several different beach and walking options nearby. The village is well placed if you want to move between west Dorset’s coast, countryside and market towns.

Nearby beaches

Seatown Beach is the closest beach to Chideock, reached down a lane from the village. It is a shingle beach with cliffs behind it, a pub close to the shore and direct access to coast path routes. It is a good choice for beach walks, sea views and starting the climb towards Golden Cap, the highest point on the South coast of England.

Charmouth is useful if fossil hunting is part of the trip, with beach access, facilities and the heritage centre close by. Lyme Regis gives you a more traditional seafront, with the town beach, Monmouth Beach and harbour area all in one place. Eype Beach and West Bay are also nearby, offering quieter shingle stretches and cliff-backed scenery.

Points of interest and things to do

Golden Cap is the major local landmark and one of the best walking goals from Chideock and Seatown. The climb is steep in places, but the views along the Dorset and Devon coast are the reward. It is best treated as a proper walk, with suitable footwear and a check on the weather before setting out.

The South West Coast Path runs through Seatown, linking Chideock with nearby coastal routes towards Charmouth, Eype and West Bay. Chideock itself has village pubs, historic buildings and countryside walks inland through the surrounding hills. For days out, Bridport, Lyme Regis, Abbotsbury and the wider Jurassic Coast give you plenty of options without needing long journeys.
