The closest coastal town of note is Bude, with supermarkets, surf schools, cafés, restaurants and family-friendly facilities. It is the place to head for Summerleaze Beach, Crooklets Beach, Bude Sea Pool and a wider choice of things to do. Staying in Kilkhampton gives you easy access to Bude while keeping your base a little quieter.

Morwenstow sits further north and has a more rural feel, with clifftop walks and historic connections around the church and Hawker’s Hut. Stratton is nearby too, offering pubs, local history and a village setting just outside Bude. Across the Devon border, Hartland and Clovelly are both possible day trips if you want to explore a more rugged stretch of coast.

Sandymouth Bay is one of the nearest beaches to Kilkhampton and is a good option for beach walks, surf, rock pools and cliff views. It has a more open feel than the town beaches in Bude, with dramatic cliffs behind the sand at low tide. Access is straightforward compared with some smaller coves, but tide times still matter.

Duckpool is another nearby beach, set in a quieter, more natural valley setting north of Sandymouth. It is better suited to walking, scenery and quieter beach time than a full facilities-led beach day. Summerleaze and Crooklets in Bude are more practical if you want cafés, toilets, surf schools and easy access from town, while Widemouth Bay is useful for a broader sandy beach with plenty of space.

The South West Coast Path is one of the main draws around Kilkhampton, with routes along the cliffs near Sandymouth, Duckpool and Morwenstow. This section of coast is good for sea views, rugged walking and quieter stretches away from the main resort beaches. Some routes include steep or uneven sections, so it is worth planning walks properly.

Bude is a good option if you want more facilities, including the canal, sea pool, shops, surf lessons and places to eat.
