Bude is the easiest nearby town for shops, restaurants, supermarkets, surf schools and family facilities. It has several beaches of its own, including Summerleaze and Crooklets, along with the sea pool, canal and town centre. This makes it useful when you want more choice than Widemouth Bay itself offers, without travelling far.

To the south, Crackington Haven gives you a smaller cove setting with a pub, cafés and steep coastal walks. Boscastle is further along the coast and offers a harbour village day out, while Tintagel adds castle ruins, shops and cliff-top scenery. Poundstock and Marhamchurch are quieter inland villages nearby, useful if you are looking at cottages slightly away from the beach.

Widemouth Bay Beach is the main reason to stay here. It is a long, sandy beach with rock pools at low tide and regular surf, making it popular with families, bodyboarders and surfers. The beach has parking and facilities close by, which makes full beach days easier than at some smaller coves.

Black Rock sits at the southern end of the bay and gives you a slightly different section of the same coastline. Summerleaze Beach in Bude is useful if you want a town beach with more facilities and access to Bude Sea Pool. Crooklets is another Bude option for surf and sand, while Crackington Haven offers a smaller cove beach further south. Tide times and surf conditions are worth checking before swimming or setting up for the day.

Surfing and bodyboarding are two of the main activities at Widemouth Bay, with the beach often used for lessons and hire during the season. The South West Coast Path runs through the area, giving you walking routes north towards Bude and south towards Crackington Haven. The southern route becomes more demanding, with steeper sections and rougher cliff paths.
