Bude is the main nearby town and the most useful place for shops, restaurants, surf beaches and everyday facilities. It works well for a day out when you want more choice than Crackington Haven offers, while still keeping the quieter village as your base. Widemouth Bay is also close to Bude and is useful if you want a wider beach with more space.

Boscastle lies to the south and has a very different feel, with a harbour, steep-sided valley and village centre shaped by the river. Tintagel is further along the coast and is often visited for its castle, village shops and coastal views. Camelford sits inland and can be useful for services, food shopping and routes towards Bodmin Moor.

Nearby beaches

Crackington Haven Beach is the main beach for the village. It is a sand and shingle cove, with rock pools at low tide and cliffs rising on either side. The beach is practical for families because the pub, cafés, toilets and parking are close by, although tide times and sea conditions should always be checked.

Widemouth Bay is the nearest broader beach option and is often used for surfing, beach walks and family days out. Summerleaze Beach in Bude gives you a town beach with more facilities, while Crooklets is another Bude option for surf and sand. To the south, Bossiney and Trebarwith Strand offer different beach options closer to Tintagel, but be sure to check access and tides times.

Points of interest and things to do

The South West Coast Path is one of the main reasons to stay in Crackington Haven. The local routes include steep climbs, cliff views and sections towards Bude, Boscastle and Cambeak. This is good walking country, but the paths can be demanding, so proper footwear and realistic plans matter.

For local interest, the cliffs around Crackington Haven are known for folded rock strata, which are easy to see from parts of the beach and coast path. Boscastle, Tintagel Castle and the wider north Cornwall coast all make useful day trips from the village. Crackington Haven is best for visitors who want beach time, walks, scenery and quieter evenings rather than a busy resort-style holiday.
