The easiest place to visit from Boscastle is Tintagel, with castle ruins, cliff-top views, shops and a very different visitor feel. It works well for a half-day trip, especially if you want history, coastal scenery and places to eat without travelling far. Camelford sits inland and is useful for supermarkets, local services and routes towards Bodmin Moor.

Crackington Haven lies further north along the coast and gives you a smaller beach village setting with cafés, a pub and good walking routes. Bude is the larger coastal town in this direction, with surf beaches, family facilities, shops and more choice for rainy-day plans. Port Isaac is also within reach to the south, offering narrow lanes, harbour views and another well-known north Cornwall village to explore.

Boscastle does not have a main sandy beach, so most beach days involve a short trip along the coast. The harbour is the place for waterside views and short walks, but it is not suitable as a normal swimming or family beach. This is worth knowing before booking if easy sand-underfoot access is important.

Trebarwith Strand is one of the most popular nearby beach options, with sand at low tide, cliffs around the bay and places to eat close by. Crackington Haven offers a smaller cove beach with rock pools and a more sheltered village setting. Bossiney Cove, near Tintagel, is another option for visitors who do not mind steps and tide planning, while Bude gives you broader beach choices with Summerleaze and Crooklets.

Points of interest and things to do

The harbour is the centre of Boscastle and the best place to start. A walk down to the quay gives you the village’s key views, with the river, harbour walls and cliffs all close together. The village also has shops, pubs, cafés and the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, which is one of its most distinctive attractions.

The South West Coast Path runs through Boscastle, with routes towards Tintagel in one direction and Crackington Haven in the other. These walks include steep sections and exposed cliff paths, so they need proper footwear and sensible planning. For days away from the village, Tintagel Castle, Rocky Valley, St Nectan’s Glen, Bude and Bodmin Moor give you a good range of coast, history, walking and inland scenery nearby.
