St Just is the nearest town for shops, pubs, cafés, galleries and local services. It has a more everyday feel than Sennen and is handy for food shopping, wet-weather plans or exploring the old mining coast around Cape Cornwall and Botallack. Penzance is further east and gives you a larger town option, with rail links, supermarkets, restaurants, the promenade and access around Mount’s Bay.

Mousehole, Newlyn and Marazion are all realistic day trips from Sennen, each offering a different west Cornwall setting. Mousehole has a small harbour village feel, Newlyn is centred on its fishing harbour, and Marazion gives you St Michael’s Mount and a broader beach beside Mount’s Bay. Porthcurno and Treen are also close by, especially if you want to visit the Minack Theatre or the beaches around the south coast.

Nearby beaches

Sennen Beach is the main beach, with a long sandy shoreline, surf and views across Whitesand Bay. It is popular with families, walkers and surfers, although conditions can change quickly because of its Atlantic-facing position. Tide times, surf conditions and lifeguard information are worth checking before going into the water.

Gwynver Beach sits at the northern end of Whitesand Bay and has a wilder, more open feel than the main cove. It is popular with surfers and walkers, but access is steeper and there are fewer facilities. Porthcurno Beach is within reach for pale sand, clear water and dramatic cliffs, while Porthgwarra gives you a smaller cove setting further around the coast.

Points of interest and things to do

Land’s End is the best-known landmark nearby and is easy to visit from Sennen. The coastal walk between Sennen Cove and Land’s End is a popular local route, giving sea views, cliffs and access to one of Cornwall’s most visited viewpoints. It is a short route compared with some coast path walks, but still needs sensible footwear and weather awareness.

The South West Coast Path gives you routes towards Cape Cornwall in one direction and Porthcurno in the other. The far west coast is also rich in mining history, with Botallack, Levant Mine and Geevor Tin Mine all within reach. For a different kind of day out, the Minack Theatre, Porthcurno, St Just, Mousehole and Penzance give you plenty of west Cornwall options without moving base.
