The closest large town and the easiest place to head for more shops, restaurants, a wider beach and harbour activity is Looe. It has a busier feel than Polperro, with East Looe Beach, the Banjo Pier and more choice for family days out. The two places are close enough to pair naturally during a stay, especially if you want one day in a busier town and another around a quieter harbour village.

Talland sits between Polperro and Looe and is useful for beach time, walking and a quieter stop along the coast. Lansallos lies to the west and gives access to a more rural cove setting. Further along this part of Cornwall, Fowey, Bodinnick and Polruan offer estuary views, ferries and another style of harbour-town day out.

Nearby beaches

Polperro has a small beach beside the harbour, best suited to a quick paddle, a short sit by the water or a wander at low tide rather than a full beach day. The village setting is the real draw here, so visitors usually combine Polperro with nearby beaches when they want more space.

Talland Bay is one of the nearest proper beach options, with two small beaches, rock pools and places to eat nearby. Lansallos Beach is quieter and more tucked away, reached by footpath or by travelling through the surrounding lanes. Looe Beach is better if you want more facilities, sand and easy access from town.

Points of interest and things to do

Polperro’s harbour and lanes are the main focus of the village, with small shops, pubs, galleries and places to eat packed into a tight area. The village has a long fishing and smuggling history, which you can pick up through the local heritage museum and the older buildings around the harbour. Traffic is limited in the centre, so most visitors use the main car park and walk down into the village.

The South West Coast Path gives you clear routes in both directions. The walk east towards Talland Bay and Looe is one of the most useful local routes, while the path west towards Lansallos gives a quieter stretch of coast. Polperro is a good base if you want harbour walks, coastal paths, small beaches and easy trips to Looe, Fowey and the surrounding villages.
