Polperro is one of the main places to visit from Looe. It is a smaller fishing village with narrow streets, a harbour and a more tucked-away feel than Looe. It works well for a half-day trip, especially if you want a change from the busier town centre.

Downderry and Seaton sit further along the coast and offer quieter beach settings within easy reach. Fowey is further west and gives you a different harbour town experience, with ferries, estuary views and a more compact waterfront. Inland, Liskeard is useful for rail links, supermarkets and wider services, while the Rame Peninsula gives access to places such as Kingsand, Cawsand, Whitsand Bay and Mount Edgcumbe.

Nearby beaches

East Looe Beach is the main beach in town and is the easiest option if you want sand, cafés, shops and facilities close by. It is sheltered by the Banjo Pier and works well for family beach days, especially if you are staying in or near the town centre. As with many Cornish beaches, tide times can affect how much space is available.

Hannafore Beach sits on the West Looe side and has a different feel. It is better known for rock pools, views across to Looe Island and quieter shoreline walks than for classic sandy beach days. Millendreath, Seaton and Downderry offer other nearby beach options, while Talland Bay is useful if you want a smaller cove between Looe and Polperro.

Points of interest and things to do

The harbour is central to Looe, with fishing boats, boat trips, seafood, shops and places to eat all close together. Trips around the bay, fishing trips and seasonal boat services give you easy ways to get on the water without travelling elsewhere. Looe Island is another key local feature, although access depends on organised visits and conditions.

The South West Coast Path runs through the area, with routes towards Polperro in one direction and Seaton, Downderry and Portwrinkle in the other. The walk to Polperro is one of the most popular local routes, with sea views and a clear destination at the end. Looe is also useful for family days out, with nearby attractions, beaches and small coastal villages giving you plenty to do without needing long drives.
