Talland Beach Cottages

Choose from 24 self-catering holiday homes in Talland

Talland is a quiet coastal spot between Looe and Polperro, with two small beaches set below the surrounding cliffs. It is much smaller than either neighbouring town, so the appeal is simple beach time, coast path walks and a slower pace rather than shops or busy seafront attractions. The coves are handy for rock pooling, kayaking, paddling and short days by the water when conditions are suitable. Talland is a good fit if you want a peaceful base on the south-east Cornwall coast, with Looe, Polperro, Lansallos and Fowey close enough for days out.

Coastal villages and nearby places

Nearby you’ll find Looe with its working harbour, shops, restaurants, boat trips and a sandy town beach. It is the best nearby option when you want more facilities, a meal out or a livelier day by the water. East Looe has the busier seafront feel, while West Looe gives you harbour views and access towards Hannafore.

Polperro lies in the other direction and offers a very different type of visit. Its narrow lanes, small harbour and traffic-free centre make it one of the most distinctive villages on this stretch of coast. Lansallos is quieter again, set inland from a more secluded cove, while Fowey is within reach for ferries, estuary views, shops and restaurants.

Beaches around Talland

Talland has two main beach areas, often referred to as Talland Sand and Rotterdam Beach. Both are small, sheltered coves with a mix of sand, shingle and rocks, depending on the tide. They are best for relaxed beach stops, rock pooling, paddling and spending a few hours by the water rather than large-scale beach days.

Looe Beach is the easier choice if you want more facilities, sand and a town setting close by. Polperro has a small harbour beach, although it is more of a quick stop than a full beach day. Lansallos Beach is a quieter option for walkers, reached by footpath and better suited to visitors who do not mind a little extra effort.

Walks, coves and local days out

The South West Coast Path runs through Talland, linking Looe and Polperro along one of the most enjoyable short walking sections in the area. The route has sea views, cliff paths, wooded sections and clear destinations at either end. It is a good walk to plan around lunch or a bus/taxi return if you do not want to walk both ways.

Talland itself is best enjoyed at a slower pace, with time split between the coves, coastal paths and nearby villages. Looe adds boat trips, fishing trips and family-friendly facilities, while Polperro gives you harbour walks, local history and a more tucked-away village setting. For a fuller day out, Fowey, Looe Island, Lansallos and the Rame Peninsula all give you different ways to explore this quieter corner of Cornwall.
