Penzance is close enough to use throughout a stay, especially for larger shops, rail links, restaurants, the promenade and Jubilee Pool. It gives you more choice than Newlyn for practical errands and evenings out, while keeping the same Mount’s Bay setting. Marazion is further around the bay and is the place to go for St Michael’s Mount, beach walks and views back across the water.

Mousehole is just along the coast in the other direction and offers a smaller harbour village setting, with narrow streets, galleries and waterside places to eat. Nearby beaches

Newlyn itself is more harbour than beach, so most beach days involve a short trip along the coast. Long Rock and Marazion Beach are the most straightforward options around Mount’s Bay, with wider sand, views of St Michael’s Mount and easier space for a proper beach day. These are usually better choices if you are travelling with children or want facilities close by.

Mousehole has a small harbour beach at low tide, better for a short stop than a full day on the sand. Perranuthnoe offers a village beach setting east of Marazion, while Praa Sands Beach gives you a broader sandy beach with more of an open-coast feel. For a different kind of shoreline, Lamorna Cove Beach is close by and works well for a quieter visit, coastal views and walking.

Points of interest and things to do

The harbour is central to Newlyn, and fishing is still a major part of the town’s identity. It is a good place to stay if you like seafood, working waterfronts and places that feel lived-in rather than polished for visitors. Newlyn also has a long artistic connection, with galleries and local creative spaces adding another layer to the town.

The walk between Newlyn and Penzance is easy to include in a stay, taking you along the edge of Mount’s Bay towards the promenade and Jubilee Pool.
