Beer is one of the closest places to visit from Seaton, with a sheltered beach, fishing boats, white chalk cliffs and a compact village centre. It feels more tucked away than Seaton and works well for a short trip, especially if you want a smaller beach setting and places to eat near the water. Branscombe is another nearby village, set in a long valley leading down to the coast, with access to the beach and coastal walks.

Lyme Regis sits further east over the Dorset border and adds a livelier seafront, harbour, fossil beaches and more places to eat. Colyton is inland from Seaton and is useful for a different kind of day out, especially because of the tramway link through the Axe Valley. Sidmouth is also within reach to the west, giving you a more established seaside town with gardens, shops and a wider promenade.

Seaton Beach is the town’s main beach, with a long pebble shore and promenade running behind it. It is good for sea views, beach walks, paddling and relaxed time by the water, although it is not a soft sandy beach. Beer Beach is close by and has a more sheltered cove feel, with fishing boats pulled up on the shore and cliffs around the bay. Branscombe Beach gives you a quieter stretch of coast with a more rural setting, while Lyme Regis offers a mix of sand, shingle, harbour and fossil beaches. Along this part of the Jurassic Coast, tide times, beach access and cliff safety are always worth checking before heading out.

Points of interest and things to do

Seaton Wetlands is one of the main local highlights, with walking trails, bird hides and access to the Axe Estuary landscape. It is a useful option for wildlife watching, gentle walks and quieter days away from the seafront. The Seaton Tramway also runs inland through the Axe Valley towards Colyton, giving you an easy day out without needing to drive.

The South West Coast Path runs through Seaton, with routes towards Beer, Branscombe and Lyme Regis. The walk towards Beer is a popular local option, while longer sections along the Jurassic Coast involve climbs, cliff paths and more planning. Seaton also works well for visiting nearby villages, fossil beaches, estuary walks and East Devon countryside, making it a practical base for a slower coastal break.
