Port Gaverne is just around the corner from Port Isaac and feels like a smaller, quieter neighbour. It has a sheltered cove, a pub and a more low-key waterfront, making it an easy place to visit on foot from the village. The two places work naturally together, especially if you want a short walk and a different view of the coast.

Polzeath is one of the main beach spots nearby, with a broader sandy bay and a strong surf scene. Rock and Daymer Bay sit further along the Camel Estuary and offer a different kind of coastal day, with calmer water, sand dunes and views across to Padstow. Wadebridge is the nearest larger town for shops, supermarkets, cafés and access to the Camel Trail.

Nearby beaches

Port Isaac has a small harbour beach, but it is tide-dependent and not the main reason most people stay here. It is best for a short wander by the water, watching the harbour activity or sitting with a view, rather than planning a full beach day. The narrow village streets also mean beach gear and parking need a little more thought than in larger resorts.

Port Gaverne is the closest proper beach option, with a sheltered cove that works well for paddling, kayaking and rock pooling when conditions suit. Polzeath Beach is better for surfing, surf lessons and bigger beach days, while Daymer Bay is a good choice for families wanting a more spacious and sheltered setting. Trebarwith Strand and Tregardock are also within reach, although both need careful tide planning.

Points of interest and things to do

The harbour and old village lanes are the main focus in Port Isaac. Much of the appeal comes from walking around the village, eating locally and taking in the views from above the harbour. Fans of Doc Martin will also recognise parts of the village, although it is worth remembering that Port Isaac is a real working village, not just a film set.

The South West Coast Path runs through Port Isaac, with routes towards Port Gaverne, Tintagel and Polzeath depending on how far you want to walk. Some sections are steep and uneven, so proper footwear is sensible. For days out, Padstow, Rock, Tintagel Castle, Boscastle and the Camel Trail all add variety without taking you far from this part of north Cornwall.
