Shorter routes around places like Robin Hood’s Bay and Flamborough Head provide a mix of terrain, including paths, open coastal views and access points down to the shoreline. This variety makes it possible to combine beach walks with longer coastal routes without needing to travel far.

Location plays an important role when travelling with a dog. Whitby offers access to nearby beaches like Sandsend and coastal paths, while Filey provides a quieter setting with a long, accessible bay. Scarborough can work well if you stay near North Bay, where access is generally more relaxed compared to the main South Bay. Staying just outside the busiest town centres often gives you easier access to open space and reduces the need to navigate restrictions, making day-to-day planning more straightforward.
