West Lulworth is close to several useful Dorset towns and villages. Wool is one of the nearest practical stops, with a railway station and everyday services, while Wareham offers a larger town centre, riverside walks, shops and places to eat. East Lulworth is nearby and has a quieter village feel, with Lulworth Castle and parkland close by.

Further along the coast, Weymouth gives you a more traditional seaside day out, with a sandy beach, harbour and larger choice of facilities. Swanage is another good option, especially if you want a town beach, pier and access to the Isle of Purbeck. Corfe Castle, Studland and Kimmeridge are also within reach for visitors who want to explore more of Dorset during the same stay.

Nearby beaches

Lulworth Cove is the closest beach and the main reason many visitors come to West Lulworth. It is a sheltered pebble beach with clear water, rock pools at low tide and easy access from the village. It can get busy in peak season, so early starts or later visits are often more comfortable.

Durdle Door Beach is close by and has one of the most recognisable coastal views in Dorset, with a shingle beach below the limestone arch. Access involves a walk and steps, so it is less straightforward than Lulworth Cove. Man O’War Bay sits nearby and offers another beach option in the same area, while Worbarrow Bay and Kimmeridge give you different stretches of the Jurassic Coast for walking, views and shoreline time.

Points of interest and things to do

Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are the headline places to visit, but the area has more than two viewpoints. Stair Hole, the Lulworth Crumple and the Fossil Forest all add to the area’s geological interest. The visitor centre near the cove is a useful starting point if you want to understand the coastline rather than only walk through it.

The South West Coast Path gives you clear routes from West Lulworth, including the well-known walk between Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Lulworth Castle is a short trip inland and works well for a change from the coast. For a longer day out, Weymouth, Swanage, Corfe Castle and the Isle of Purbeck all offer different options without moving far from this part of Dorset.
