St Ives is the closest and most obvious place to visit from Carbis Bay. It gives you a wider choice of restaurants, shops, galleries, harbour streets and beaches, while still being close enough for a simple trip rather than a full day out. The branch railway line between Carbis Bay and St Ives is especially useful in busy periods when parking in town can be difficult.

Lelant sits on the other side of Carbis Bay and has a quieter village feel, with access towards the Hayle Estuary and Porthkidney Sands. Hayle is close by and gives you more everyday facilities, shops and access to a long stretch of sand around St Ives Bay. Further west, Penzance, Marazion and Mousehole are all realistic options for days out during a longer stay.

Carbis Bay Beach is the main beach and one of the more sheltered options around St Ives Bay. It has soft sand, clear water and a gentler feel than the Atlantic-facing beaches around St Ives. Its position makes it useful for families, swimming, paddle-boarding and relaxed beach days, although sea conditions should still be checked before going into the water.

Porthkidney Sands is nearby and offers a much wider, quieter beach setting between Carbis Bay and Lelant. In St Ives, Porthminster Beach is the closest major beach, while Porthmeor is better known for surf. Hayle Towans and Gwithian give you larger, more open beaches across the bay, with more space for long walks and surf depending on conditions.

The coast path between Carbis Bay and St Ives is a highly recommended sea view walk and one of the easiest ways to enjoy the local area without using the car. It gives you sea views, access into St Ives and a clear route between the beaches around the bay. The railway is also useful, especially if you want to walk one way and return by train.

St Ives adds galleries, the harbour, Tate St Ives and a wider choice of places to eat and drink. Hayle Estuary is a good option for birdwatching and quieter walks, while Godrevy, Gwithian and the north coast around St Agnes are within reach for bigger beach days. Carbis Bay suits visitors who want a peaceful beach base close to St Ives, without staying directly in the busiest part of town.
