The main town near Marazion is Penzance, ideal for extra shops, restaurants, transport links and harbour facilities. It has a larger town centre than Marazion, along with access to the promenade, Jubilee Pool and routes towards Newlyn and Mousehole. It works well for practical days out when you want more choice without travelling far.

Newlyn and Mousehole are close by on the western side of Mount’s Bay, offering harbour settings, narrow streets and good places to eat. To the east, Perranuthnoe and Praa Sands give you smaller coastal bases with a quieter feel. St Ives, Hayle, Porthleven and the wider west Cornwall coast are also within reach for longer days out.

Nearby beaches

Marazion Beach is the main beach in town, with sand, shingle and views across to St Michael’s Mount. It is useful for families because the beach, parking, places to eat and town centre are all close together. At low tide, the causeway to St Michael’s Mount becomes visible, although crossing times need to be checked carefully.

Perranuthnoe Beach is nearby and offers a smaller village beach with a quieter feel than Marazion. Praa Sands is a wider sandy beach further east, often used for surfing, swimming and family beach days when conditions suit. Across the bay, Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole offer more harbour-based shoreline settings rather than large beach days.

Points of interest and things to do

St Michael’s Mount is the main landmark and the reason many people visit Marazion. The island is reached by the tidal causeway at low tide, with boat crossings used at other times when available. Planning around the tides is important, especially if you want to walk across rather than take a boat.

Marazion is also a useful base for water-sports, coastal walks and exploring Mount’s Bay. The South West Coast Path links the town with Penzance, Perranuthnoe and other parts of the bay, while the surrounding area gives you access to gardens, galleries, harbour towns and west Cornwall landmarks. For a wider day out, St Ives, Mousehole, Porthleven, Land’s End and the Minack Theatre are all realistic options from Marazion.
